About Us
Meet Our Team
Primo with its comfortable, contemporary interior, superb food and affordable wine list, is rapidly becoming established as one of the most popular destination restaurants in the city for both lunch and dinner.
Situated at the back of the old Royal Mail building on Wellington Street, this Italian newcomer has a highly experienced team ready to create delicious authentic Italian dishes using fresh local produce and imported Italian specialities - all served with a delightful mix of Mediterranean panache and Yorkshire warmth and value.
Led by restaurateur Claudio Modena, he has complemented his vast experience with hand-picked, top class staff and together they have outstanding knowledge of the food and catering industry.
Claudio has a sure taste for success and has drawn together all the ingredients of an impressive team, including Sardinian head chef, Antonio Stincheddu, who specialises in fish dishes, and front-of-house manager Massimo Sechi - who is passionate about customer service.
Claudio has been asked many times: "How is your restaurant different from the rest of the Italians in town?" The answer is simple: Italian staff, quality of customer service, great menu created from typical Italian dishes using only fresh - not frozen - ingredients and nevertheless, the value for money compared to quality of food and wine, which is hardly beatable in the city centre.
Primo will support local farmers wherever possible, with fresh Yorkshire produce and locally produced meat and fresh-caught fish. When authentic produce is required they will import goods from Italy.

Primo is open early ‘til late - serving breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner - when it turns into a late cocktail bar.
Claudio is an experienced mixologist, having created several of the mouth-watering cocktails on the menu. The pastry and desserts chef can even whip up some home-made chocolates to take away with you!
The extensive wine and champagne list is designed to represent value for money, and complement the menu, rather than to hike up the bill.
In addition, Primo offers free wifi access so customers are never out of touch.
